Fourth grade is working hard on constructing their miniature houses. I can't wait to see these tiny constructions among the gardens in Riverside providing residence to fairies and gnomes.

Students in the art studio are having a blast with lending a hand making pom pom garlands in spare moments between projects. It's great fine motor practice and festive. HOUR OF CODE is hereStudents at Ames were introduced to The Hour of Code this week. Learning the basics of computer programming kindergarten-second grade students had the opportunity to try their hand using computer science to solve puzzles and build games using characters from pop culture like Star Wars and Angry Birds. If your students are interested in expanding their knowledge at home they can use the links below to keep their learning on going. Give it a try yourself!
While in class this week 4th and 5th graders are learning about artists that use typography in their works of art.

Students in 1-5th grade participated in The Hour of Code this week in art. Students learned what computer science is and the very basics of coding. Many students really enjoyed this activity and were asking how to continue on. If your child in interested in looking further into computer science activities, or if YOU"RE interested in learning more about The Hour of Code, check out www.code.org for more information and links to activity opportunities. Art Gift Ideas on Amazon Congratulations to all of last years kinders, first, and second graders on their stop motion animation receiving an award at The After Hours Film Society "Say it in 8" student film competition! Our short film will be shown on the BIG screen on Monday night, October 20th at 5pm at the Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove. Everyone is welcome to attend the screening and short awards ceremony that evening. (tickets are $5). We hope to take a picture of the artists and their families in front of the marquee at the conclusion of the premiere of our film. Everyone worked so hard last year with our visiting artist, Bob Fritz to create our masterpiece. Thank you so much to all of our volunteers and of course our Ames PTA for making it all possible.
